Estimating n with time grouped and truncated data from a scale parameter distribution

Title: Estimating n with time grouped and truncated data from a scale parameter distribution
Author: Blumenthal, Saul
Appeared in: Communications in statistics
Paging: Volume 16 (1987) nr. 4 pages 1161-1179
Year: 1987
Contents: Data which is both grouped and truncated in considered. Times [image omitted]  are given and we count the number Mi of observations in the interval [ti-1,ti], except the number [image omitted]  is unknown. If the underlying distribution had one unknown parameter of θ which enters as a scale parameter, we examine the form of the equations for both conditional, unconditional and modified maximum likelihood estimators of θ and N and examine when these will be finite, and unique. We also develop expressions for asymptotic bias nad search for modified estimators which minimize the maximum asymptotic bias.
