The Poisson distribution has often been considered the most probable distictions on insects and other organisms when there are no restrictions on movement and no biological or physical constraints on behavior. Based on Bose Einstein statistics, the geometric distribution is presented here as an alternative for the most probable distribution. The conditions implied by the statistica derivation of the geometric are given. Empirical dara from aqraecosystems are listed to support the idea that the geometric does occur i n nature when these conditions are met. Applications and theories used in physics and other disciplines are also discussed. |
