This article applies the ridge regression procedure developed by Hoerl and Kennard (1970a, b) to study the relationships between local criminal activities and three sets of explanatory variables (economic, apprehension, and seasonal). The ridge estimates of the full model and the truncated model are consistent in signs and magnitude. R2values of the two models are almost identical. |
