The influence Curve and breakdown are calculated for a class of estimators of dispersion, the mid-variance. The influence curve is needed to approximate the distribution of the sample mid-variance for purposes of developing tests of variability. In addition the least favorable distributions needed for determining breakdown of any measure of dispersion are developed. These distributions are found to be different from the least favorable distributions used to find breakdown of location functionals. |
