Pillai and Ramachandran (P-R) have tabulated critical values for the simultaneous testing or interval estimation of m orthogonal contrasts. Tables were provided for both case where all m contrasts are one-tailed and where all are two-tailed, but no tables are available for the case in which some specified k, O < k < m, of the contrast are one sided and the remaining m-k are two sided. For error degrees of freedom exceeding 10 the P-R tables may in fact be applied as adequate approximations in this Latter case. Exact critical values for a specified k differ from the P-R critical values by at most .02 for 2 ≤ m ≤ 8, and the differences diminish to zero with increasing error degrees of freedom. |
