Two techniques used in the machine generation of order statistics are considered. For a sample X1.2:,… ,Xn from a uniform (0,1) population, the joint distribution of the largest order statistics X,(n), X*X(n) resulting from the two methods is obtained, and the distributions of Xn- ,Xnx and of max(X(n), X,(n) N) arederived In the case of the exponential distribution, the correlation coefficient between corresponding order statistics generated by two different techniques is calculated.
