The practical application of two types of rank tests for the c-sample problem (in the univariate and bivariate cases) are simulated. The well-known Puri-Sen tests (based on the ranks of all the observations of the c-samples in each component) are compared to the so-called “pairwise ranking approach” (based on a quadratic form in two-sample tests, computed for all [image omitted] combinations of two samples). The adequacy of the X2 -approximation of both types of tests is in- vestigated and the tests are compared with respect to empirical size and power (against alternatives of location and a special class of location-dispersion alternatives). Finally the effect of unequal sample sizes on the empirical size and power is studied. |
