Heuristic arguments are used to propose some procedures for the selection of variables in multivariate analysis of variance. A set of specific treatment structures are used to generate sample data for an evaluation of the effectiveness of the proposed procedures. The procedure that is based on the Wilks' A statistic appears to perform well but is not universally optimum. |
