The analysis of three-dimensional contingency tables has received considerable attention in the statistical literature during the past two decades. That much of it has been devoted to the “no-interaction” hypothesis, is in part due to the ambiguity of this concept. Simpler, more useful concepts have been overlooked, or bypassed. Some first occur with data in more than three dimensions. A few have analogues in the analysis of variance and in multivariate Gaussian analysis; others do not. The motivation that led to the definition of “no-interaction” in contingency tables of more two dimensions leads also to more difficult concepts, yet to be defined or explained. |
