Supplementary information can be used to achieve higher precision of an es-timate, especially when that information is linearly associated with the variable of interest. This is the case when we are studying the family average income and want to use the number of inhabitants in the study zone like supplementary information; however, in a lot of cases this last variable is not updated and the available data were obtained years ago. In these circumstances, it is adequate to wonder about using this information to estimate population mean. Here, we intend to analyze similar problems by means of a simulationstudy. The empirical precision and accuracy of seven different estimation procedures (six of them are utilizing suplementary information) were compared by means of a simulation study. The simulation outputs indicate that supplementary information improves the estimates and shows which estimation procedure is more precise on the particular studied cases. |
