Inhoud: A simple procedure for constructing an optimal regression design after an initial set of input values has been selected is introduced. The solution applies to the case in which the total sum of squares of the input variables is bounded from above and thus to the case in which selection of observations is controlled by cost considerations and the cost of an observation is proportional to the sum of the squares of its input values. Optimal procedures are also displayed for the special case in which the sum of squares of the input variables remains constant and the case in which the underlying correlation structure remains constant. The augmentation procedure which can be performed almost entirely with standard canned programs is outlined in detail, and an empirical example using the procedure is displayed.
