In this paper approximate maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of a binomial mixture of two single parameter exponentials are obtained for data which is grouped and right censored at time T. Solutions of the likelihood equations are obtained as non-linear functions of the parameters. An iterative scheme is described which was successfully used to derive the Monte Carlo sampling properties of the estimators. The properties of the grouped estimators compare very favorably with the non-grouped estimator showing that little information is lost by collecting data only at fixed time periods. A numerical example of the use of this procedure on real data is considered. |
