A popular algorithm for reparameterizing linear models is that which defines effects due to the levels of each factor as adding to zero. When models with interactions are being used with data that have empty cells, certain statistical computer packages use this algorithm incorrectly. This wrong use of the algorithm is described and illustrated. |
