Asymptotic expansions of the non-null distributions of Hotelling's statistic and Pillai's statistic for testing the independence between two sets of variates in a p-variate normal population are derived up to the order n-1 for large sample size n+1, in terms of the normal distribution function and its derivatives. The method is based on differential operators on symmetric matrix by Siotani [8], Ito [6] and etc. |
