The concentration of N, P, K, and Ca in yam leaves sampled from three marked positions viz, lower, middle and upper on the stake under varying rates of nitrogen fertilization, was determined and correlated with tuber yield. Leaf-N and -P were decreased, and -K increased in the upper portions of the stake at higher rates of N-fertilization, but were unaffected in the lower and middle portions. Leaf -Ca was reduced in the upper portion, when compared to the lower and middle portions on the stake. Phosphorus determined in leaves sampled from the lower and middle portions of the stake correlated significantly with tuber yield. Correlation 'between leaf -Ca and tuber yield was significant only in the upper portion.
