We prove that an integral domain with a direct topology is is algebraically closed in its completion and that a direct topology on a field can be extended to a direct topology on a simple algebraic extension. We give a canonical description of the inverse of an element in the completion of a ring with a direct topology. We consider a ring topology constructed by Marcos in terms of direct topologies and give generalizations of two constructions of Mutylin. |
