In characteristic zero we construct an exact sequence over the symplectic group whose Euler-Poincare characteristic gives the branching rule for this group.This exact sequence is one way of realizing the Giambelli formula for the symplectic group.Also we give a representation-theoretic proof of the restriction rule for the symplectic group. |
