Using your emotions: Improving the measurement of affective orientation

Title: Using your emotions: Improving the measurement of affective orientation
Author: Booth-Butterfield, Melanie
Booth-Butterfield, Steve
Appeared in: Communication research reports
Paging: Volume 13 (1996) nr. 2 pages 157-163
Year: 1996
Contents: This research develops a new measure for affective orientation, focusing the conceptualization on how people use emotions to guide their communication and behavior. The 15-item scale is unidimensional, highly reliable (+.85 alpha), and independent of one's need for cognition. The original version of the Affective Orientation scale is recommended if researchers are interested in the sensitivity to one's emotions, but the AO15 is recommended for studying actual use of affect in interactions and decision-making.
