Inhoud: Two studies support the hypothesis that communication satisfaction associates positively with uncertainty reduction during initial interaction. In Study I, participants (N = 75) engaged in initial interaction for a short time, after which they completed measures of communication satisfaction and uncertainty. As prediaed, a positive and significant correlation was observed between the two concepts. Study II replicated and extended Study I by changing the nature of the experimental induction and by adding measures of communication competence. In Study II, participants (N = 42) were asked to interview candidates for a teaching assistantship. Upon conclusion of the interview, participants completed the same measures of communication satisfaction and uncertainty reduction that were used in Study I plus an additional measure of communication competence. Results of Study II replicated those of Study I.
