This study explores the role of managing relationship-specific face concerns in the context of friendship. We predicted that wanting positive face support and partner providing positive face support would be associated with interpersonal solidarity. We also predicted that wanting and receiving negative face support from partner would be inversely associated with solidarity. Survey results from 273 friendship dyads generally supported the hypotheses for same-sex and cross-sex friendships. |
