This study tested whether visualization, an intervention designed to reduce communication apprehension, could be improved by tailoring it to the information processing characteristics of those using the procedure. Accordingly, people who reported relying on verbal processing, imagery processing, or combined processing were exposed to scripted visualization (i.e., verbal), pictorial visualization (i.e., imagery), or a combination of the two. Results indicate that visualization is more effective if it is tailored to the processing preferences of those using the procedure.
