Curriculum development in broadcasting: A five-point plan

Title: Curriculum development in broadcasting: A five-point plan
Author: Sherman, Barry I.
Appeared in: Communication education
Paging: Volume 32 (1983) nr. 2 pages 247-251
Year: 1983-04
Contents: This paper compares current trends in media education with field observations of professional broadcasters made at a major market television station. It is argued that contrary to the contemporary move toward production-oriented curricula, success in the professional media environment coincides with traditional writing, forensic, and research skills. Five recommendations for broadcast education are posited to align academic preparation more closely with expected and observed professional competencies.
