Title: The effect of three levels of black dialect on perceived speaker image
Author: Bock, E. Hope
Pitts, James H.
Appeared in: Communication education
Paging: Volume 24 (1975) nr. 3 pages 218-225
Year: 1975-09
Contents: The study investigated the effects of three different Black dialects on perceived speaker image by a Black audience. On the authoritativeness scale, results revealed a mixed reaction to the jive condition, a positive reaction to the straight condition, and a negative reaction to the uneducated condition. On the character scale, the three dialect conditions had practically no positive effect on reputation and little effect on perceived honesty and truth.
