Inhoud: The anomalous sentences repetition test (A.S.R.T.) is based on work by Newcombe and Marshall (1967), who showed that sentence repetition was an efficient task for discriminating between patients with unilateral left-hemisphere lesions and those with right-hemisphere lesions, especially when normal linguistic constraints were weak or absent. Weeks argues that the same types of material are useful in another clinical context: that of discriminating between early dementing illnesses and major depressive disorders in patients over the age of 55. He recommends the A.S.R.T. as superior to other tests designed for this purpose in that it is brief (taking less than five minutes to administer), does not demand prolonged concentration, and is less embarrassing. It is designed for use by a range of professionals working in psychogeriatric and neurological fields, although the author notes that there is scope for extending the A.S.R.T. to a wider range of subjects.
