The international construction community's understanding of sustainable development is compromised by a systemic communication gap between the developed and developing worlds as well as a failure to address the implications of social requirements. The inclusion of the developing world within the sustainable development debate is argued as essential and the obstacles to achieving this are considered. Initiating a real dialogue in an equal partnership between the developed and developing worlds is a key challenge to define the process, guidelines and achieve protocols for sustainable development. Although CIB has recently commenced engaging with the developing world, much more needs to be done. La comprehension par la communaute internationale de la construction du concept de developpement durable est compromise par un manque de communication systemique entre pays developpes et pays en developpement et par une certaine incapacite a traiter des implications des besoins sociaux. L'arrivee des pays en developpement au sein du debat sur le developpement durable est jugee essentielle et les obstacles pour y parvenir sont pris en compte. Engager un veritable dialogue, dans le cas d'un partenariat equitable entre pays developpes et pays en developpement, est un defi majeur sur la voie de la definition des procedures, des orientations et de l'elaboration de protocoles en vue du developpement durable. Bien que le CIB ait recemment commence a s'engager dans les pays en developpement, il reste beaucoup a faire. |
