This review from the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, India, describes test and field manufacture results from using particular soils mixed with rice husk, rice husk ash, fly ash and cinder for brickmaking. Optimum-proportion admixtures of the wastes, depending on material characteristics, and firing at 1000 ± 20 °C in continuous kilns, have produced bricks of 50-225 kg/cm2 compressive strengths. Fuel savings in firing of up to 25 per cent can also be achieved.
