The author, chairman of the Urban and Regional Planning Programme at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the USA, has been concerned with the relationship between transportation and man-built, natural and social environments. This relationship has been heavily emphasised in the development of urbanised societies where accessibility to employment is an all-important factor and it has been shown that developments which have been planned with accessibilities that are either too high or too low do not succeed in growing as originally visualised. |
