It was proposed to use a neoprene pad in the critical end-column connections of a reinforced concrete housing system. How the optimum solution was found is revealed in this article on the evolution of performance criteria for systems which have not been tested by time. It describes work at the US National Bureau of Standards Center for Building Technology, where the authors work, and is based on a report originally presented at a CIB symposium on tall buildings held in Moscow. |
