1. Tests show that if force and deformation are recorded during the puncture test, an estimate of shell stiffness can be obtained with acceptable precision, thus combining the puncture and quasi-static compression tests of shell strength. 2. The punch speed affects the force required to puncture the egg showing that the shell is strain rate sensitive under shear stresses and that punch speed must be precisely controlled to eliminate this source of error. |
