Hyperglycemia was produced in female Brown Leghorn fowls by oral or intravenous injection of glucose solutions, at high and low levels of feeding motivation. A significant effect on food intake during a subsequent 15-min test period was found only for the oral/low-motivation condition. This may have been due to the osmotic effect of the solution on the gut rather than a true lowering of feeding motivation. It is unlikely that feeding motivation is directly related to blood glucose levels. |
