The '16 +' proposals raise in an acute form the issue of comparability between years, Boards and subjects. There is increasing emphasis on 'criterion-related' assessment in public examinations. It is suggested that these demand a new approach to examining, based on a taxonomy of the skills particularly relevant to the subject. Suggestions for skills categorization are made, and their implications considered with reference to syllabuses, examining techniques, and the grading of results. |
