This article is based on experience of teaching RE in a multi-faith class, and on ethnographic research among Muslim children in Leicester (Ipgrave 1996). It recognises the existence of tension between the educational and religious interests and values of teachers and pupils, and suggests ways in which challenges posed by the multi-faith context of RE in Britain can be met through a broadening of RE delivery to match the students' religious understanding |
