Learning-through-teaching is a technique for helping students to overcome difficulties in studies. The procedure derives from the principle of mutuality between the learner and the teacher, with feelings of mutual support constituting the currency of the social transaction of learning. The student takes up the role of teacher, whilst the 'counsellor' or tutor takes up the role of the learner. The paper describes the theoretical assumptions of this procedure, and the problems of selecting suitable clients. A note on the use of tape recording as an aid in learning-through-teaching and in overcoming writing blocks is also included. |
