This article describes some of the interventions that are offered to enhance coping and stress management in children and adolescents. It is intended as a sample of interventions, rather than a complete range. It is argued that the model of stress upon which the intervention is based dictates the intervention. The article focuses upon the models of the stress process that underpin some of these interventions and assesses their usefulness in establishing a rationale for intervention. The implications are discussed of the acceptance of an extended Lazarus/Folkman model for interventions in schools. |
