The tenets of personal construct theory suggest that the procedure for the completion of a repertory grid should allow respondents to indicate whenever an element falls outside the range of convenience of a construct. In such circumstances blank cells appear in a grid matrix, with consequent problems for analysis. A stability index based on the cumulated change on a per cell' basis is shown to maximise the use of test-retest data collected when blank cells are present, and to be superior to Bannister's consistency score, Slater's coefficient of convergence and Slater's general degree of correlation. |
