The What and Wherefore of Nursery Record-keeping

Titel: The What and Wherefore of Nursery Record-keeping
Auteur: Moore, Elizabeth
Sylva, Kathy
Verschenen in: British educational research journal
Paginering: Jaargang 11 (1985) nr. 3 pagina's 241-251
Jaar: 1985
Inhoud: Nursery headteachers and nursery class teachers in two LEAs with official records participated in a study of record-keeping practices. One LEA offers a checklist form and the other a structured narrative. Although the two different formats are well liked, staff in both authorities extend the official records and often add items in a format different from the official one. Regardless of format, the purpose to which records are put in similar in both authorities: planning for individual children and organising staff teamwork. One authority places special emphasis on transfer records but neither uses records for communicating with parents or outside professionals. In only one authority do nursery assistants make a substantial contribution to the records. Few respondents questioned their accuracy in making assessments and several suggestions are made for improving objectivity
