This paper reports the design, implementation and evaluation of a teaching and learning programme for a group of 12 and 13 year-old pupils with moderate learning difficulties. The intention of the programme was to focus pupils' attention on their own thinking and learning processes within the context of mathematics activities. Through self-reporting and self-appraisal, the programme attempted to increase pupils' awareness of, and subsequently control over, these thought processes. The paper examines the possibilities of this kind of reflection as a way of enhancing the learning capabilities and self-esteem of these pupils. |
