Circannual variations of pineal-paraphyseal activity of the adult male soft-shelled turtle (Lissemys punctata punctata Bonnoterre) were studied once a month (around the 15th) throughout one year. It appeared that pinealocy te nuclear diameter was minimal in May compared to the other months of this year. The serotonin, norepinephrine and epinephrine levels increased to a great extent in the period April-June. These findings suggest that there is a distinct circannual variation in pineal gland activity in turtles. |
