Annual variations in trunk kidney and urinary bladder ATPases of domesticated rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), reared under natural conditions, were studied throughout 1989. Of all the following ATPases involved in ionosmotic regulation: Ca2+-, HCO3-, (Na+-K+)- and Mg2+-, only the latter two appear to be related to the preadaptative ionosmotic changes that occur during the smoltification process.
