Nyctohemeral variations in the number of tritiated-thymidine labelled cells as well as in the number of mitoses of the mandibular condylar cartilage in the young rat, were submitted to a statistical analysis according to De Prins' method. This method offers the possibility of a statistical analysis of spectral findings. 1) In the experiments reported here, rhythms observed exhibit a 24-h period significant oscillation. Formally, the behaviour of several features of the residual errors allowed neither to proof nor to reject the existence of additional spectral components. 2) In these experimental conditions, there was no environmental factor inducing oscillating periods inferior to 24-h; moreover, there is no data to support the existence of biological period corresponding to one of the additional harmonics. Comparisons between rhythms parameters seem unappropriate, since conclusions depend mainly on the assumptions made. |
