The slug parasitic ciliate protozoan, Tetrahymena rostrata , was isolated from the slug Deroceras reticulatum and used in bioassays against D. reticulatum at 10 and 17oC and in in vitro growth experiments at a range of temperatures. The parasite reproduced, and significantly reduced the life span of juvenile D. reticulatum at 17oC, but not at 10oC.
