Inhoud: This paper reports two related studies which investigated children's and adults' perceptions of an unusual television drama program, Monkey. In the first study 210 Grade 6 children and 69 young adults were asked for program preferences, viewing frequency, and comprehension of an episode of Monkey. In the second study 36 Grade 6 children and 53 young adults rated a set of statements for importance in good quality children's drama (TV Rating Scale), and for accuracy in describing Monkey (Program Rating Scale). Results showed that Monkey was less popular than other programs on at the same time, and that responses to the program and comprehension of the episode were significantly related to age and sex. The rating scales provided information about qualitative features which respondents judged important for good children's television drama, and features of Monkey which influenced their judgements of the program.
