Inhoud: This study tested the hypothesis that measured vocational interests and self-estimates of these reflect a common domain of psychometric behaviour. Previous attempts to relate interest inventory results to self-estimates by product-moment and rank correlation methods have generally yielded low lo moderate coefficients. This paper presents the first application of multivariate analysis of regression, variance and covariance to this problem. Self-estimates of Kuder interests for 218 counselling clients were significantly related (p <.001) to their scores or percentiles on the Kuder Preference Record-Vocational. Self-estimated interest varied significantly with sex (p <.001) but not with age or intelligence. The relevance of these results to the assessment of vocational interests in guidance and counselling is outlined.
