There is increased demand for the services of the psychologist in court procedures, but limited knowledge of the psychologist's function in the various courts by psychologists in general. This paper will consider briefly the role of the psychologist in Children's Court and in the Family Court, since these courts use psychologists in special ways. Emphasis will, however, be given to problems in court appearance as an expert witness in County and Supreme Courts, especially for those unrehearsed in courtroom procedures. To lend meaning, the approach is anecdotal. My biases are that I am speaking of the Victorian scene and as a government-employed psychologist. |
