Meehl's (1967) arguments concerning the logical deficiencies of directional hypothesis testing are resurrected in order to confront their implications for theory testing in psychology. A number of suggestions for improvement are made, and it is concluded that there needs to be more attention paid to such questions both in professional journals and in the training of psychologists. |
