A group approach to the introductory statistics course in psychology

Titel: A group approach to the introductory statistics course in psychology
Auteur: Cumming, Geoff
Verschenen in: Australian psychologist
Paginering: Jaargang 12 (1977) nr. 3 pagina's 293-302
Jaar: 1977-11-01
Inhoud: The statistics course given as part of Psychology I in 1976 is described. The course was a modified group Keller course in which the 230 students were assigned to mixed ability groups of 4-6 which worked through the 11 units of course material under the guidance of paid student proctors. Students were required to work together in their groups. Progress was primarily self-paced, but deadlines were set. The course material was organised to stress the understanding of principles; probability and nonparametric procedures were emphasised. The course was successful: even in a class of mixed backgrounds it appeared to have achieved, by comparison with what might have been expected of a conventional course, no decrease in learning, a reduction in cost, an increase in individual contact, and an improvement in student attitudes.
