Job satisfaction of papua new guinea policemen

Titel: Job satisfaction of papua new guinea policemen
Auteur: Hutton, Malcolm A.
O'brien, Gordon E.
Verschenen in: Australian psychologist
Paginering: Jaargang 12 (1977) nr. 2 pagina's 187-192
Jaar: 1977-07-01
Inhoud: Three versions of Herzberg's two-factor theory of job satisfaction identified by King (1970) were tested using multiple regression analysis. The subjects were 189 indigenous Papua New Guinea policemen. Diglot English/Pidgin forms of the Job Descriptive Inventory were developed to measure satisfaction with aspects of their job situation. Overall satisfaction and dissatisfaction were measured by a Papua New Guinea adaptation of the General Motors Faces Scale. Results did not provide support for any of the three versions of tbe two-factor theory. However, both intrinsic and extrinsic job factors significantly correlated with overall Dissatisfaction. This finding was interpreted in terms of the relative salience of pain-avoidance vs growth needs in a developing country.
