Easily administered, scored and interpreted measures were sought for use with senior high school students. The shortened form of the Self Selection Scale was found to be reliable over time, having suitable concurrent validity with the E.P.P.S. Further validation was undertaken with 18 other measures of achievement and affiliation needs. Factor analysis highlighted the complexity of need achivement and the necessity of clarifying facets important in classroom learning. The Self Selection Scale appeared to measure “competitive achievement” and “objective affiliation”. Used with the adjective check-list considerable information about students achievement and affiliation needs could be gleaned. |
