This paper describes a computational model of the perception of dot patterns. Initially it is assumed that there is a set of points which is perceived as one cluster. The problem is to determine the boundary edges of the cluster on which the resulting perception of the shape is dependent. This is resolved into two stages. The first stage is to determine the set of points to which each point may be linked, and indicates the need for a global computation. The second stage is to label those links which may be considered as edges. The results of this procedure, and some apparent anomalies, are discussed in relationship to the dominant perception of the clusters. |
