Drive differences and level of extraneous stimulation

Titel: Drive differences and level of extraneous stimulation
Auteur: Porcheron, Rex F.
Verschenen in: Australian journal of psychology
Paginering: Jaargang 21 (1969) nr. 2 pagina's 149-157
Jaar: 1969-08-01
Inhoud: Consideration was given to two studies investigating drive differences with reduced level of extraneous stimulation. It was concluded that the findings were not necessarily contrary to the theory of drive proposed by Estes, as had been implied in 1 study. Experimental evidence in support of this conclusion was obtained. The theoretical implications of increasing level of extraneous stimulation were considered for the Hull-Spence and Estes theories which allow opposite predictions under these conditions. These were tested in 2 experiments which produced clear support for the Estes prediction. There were certain reservations in rejecting the Hull-Spence prediction.
